The school choir has traditionally been an integral part of school life in St. John of God School.
It has been a great opportunity for all 5th and 6th class girls to showcase their wonderful talent down through the years.
The choir has a great reputation and has always enraptured it’s audience.
At present, the choir is directed by Ms. Ann Butler and Ms. Aoife Corcoran.
With the accompaniment of Mary Butler on piano, they have proved to be a winning combination on many occasions!
As well as singing for communions, confirmations and other school masses the choir have also participated in the following events:
Cois Nore Christmas coffee morning
The Lions Club Charity Appeal (St. Canice’s Cathedral)
The Peace Proms (A huge musical extravaganza where the girls join with lots of choirs from other schools, the” Cross Border Orchestra”, tenors, sopranos and other guest musicians. This usually takes place in Cillín Hill.)
Girls from 3rd to 6th class also take part in the Thomas Moore singing competition.
Ms. Mary O’Keeffe and Ms. Anne O’ Mahony direct the pupils in third and fourth class and they have been singing some beautiful melodies in their choir practices.
We believe that the art of song-singing is very important from a cultural point of view and it also helps to build confidence.
