Peace Proms 2018
On the 18th of March 2018, St John of God’s 4th and 5th classes took part in the Peace Proms concert in Cillin Hill. The Cross Border of Ireland accompanied us on the night. Greg Beardsell was the conductor and director. There was also a soloist singer called Lauren Murphy, she sang ‘You’re the Voice’ and the Boogie Medley with us and the audience also joined in. The Evelyn White Irish Dancing School danced while the musicians accompanied them.
There were over one thousand children from schools singing with us all across Ireland. Patricia Treacy the violinist played along with the Cross Border Orchestra. Ross Scanlon,Katie Weir and Lauren Murphy sang the boogie medley with us. Ross Scanlon and Katie Weir are opera singers, they were very good.
Before Peace Proms we had a two hour practice with Greg Beardsell and for the first time we also met and practiced with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. At the end of our practice four members of the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland brought out a birthday cake for Greg and we all sang happy birthday.
We thanked Greg, the orchestra and all the members and helpers that were involved in the Peace Proms. The day before the Peace Proms Ireland won a rugby match. To celebrate, Ross Scanlon started singing Irelands call and we all joined in including the audience, the orchestra and singers. It was a great experience and we all very much enjoyed it.
